Childbirth education

Are you are ready for your next step in preparing yourself and your epic birth team as much as possible? Maybe you are already taking classes, but want that extra bit of knowledge when it comes down to taking care of the baby once it arrives? There are soo many options and different styles of teaching that it can make your head spin!

If you live in a small community, like myself, sometimes finding a local hospital class is not that easy to access or you attend one and leave with more questions and new fears than you did when you first stepped foot into the room.

Don't worry, I completely understand and feel your overwhelm.

As a Lamaze certified Childbirth Educator I follow their Six Healthy Birth Practices and evidence based approach. I believe everyone is entitled to ALL the information and not just what is deemed "normal". You deserve to have the birth you have always envisioned, the ability to make informed decisions  labour tools, and the right to advocate for yourself when you feel the pressure from the medical system. Through private sessions we can customize your education to your specific needs while also expanding your knowledge through the different stages of pregnancy,  birth, and your first year with a newborn.

Private Classes

Private classes allow us to cover everything that entails to your ideal birth, what you might encounter, advocacy, pain management, partner support, and relaxation techniques. Not to mention how to take care of your baby once they make their grand arrival.

Whether it is during the day, evenings, or weekends we can meet up in person or virtually and go over your picked topic(s). Studies have shown that we learn better in two hour increments and I find most topics need this amount of time to help you learn and commit it to long term memory without the overload.

A baby is looking at the camera while nursing from a woman's breast as she lies back.
Baby clothes are scattered across with a shirt, pants, a baby rattle, a small brush and a hat in the top corner.

Advocacy in the Hospital

Investment $40

Time: 1-2 hours

A lot of first time parents want a hospital birth to ease their mind of all the "what ifs" and the sense of security having modern medicine can provide. But the one part they cringe at the moment they enter a hospital is the "bullying" staff and doctors. No one wants to feel belittled or like their voice doesn't hold meaning. Speak up! Here we will go over every type of medical intervention and teach you how to advocate for your rights. How to tell the different between informed and shared decision making and ways to understand when a doctor is asking versus sounding like an order.

You, as the patient and birthing person, have more rights than you are aware and together we can prepare you and your birthing partner how to ask the right questions with B.R.A.I.N. and when to politely say "NO".

You will receive resources and handouts to help prepare you for an optimal hospital experience and postpartum tools for a smooth transition.

Breastfeeding
&
More

Investment  $40

Time: 1-2 hours

Are you considering breastfeeding, but have no idea how? Through this class we will cover basic anatomy of your breasts and how your body produces milk for your baby. We will go over different ways to hold your baby(s) for that perfect latch and signs of a healthy milk supply and what to look for when it comes to a clogged duct, mastitis or nipple pain.

If you plan on utilizing a breast pump or haka we will go over how to use them efficiently, storing milk and how to incorporate combination feed without confusing your baby. Whether that is bottled milk or formula.

We will even cover formula feeding so you are educated on all the possibilities should there be a need. Feeding your baby is important while also taking care of your mental health as well through gentle support whether that be before birth or after when you need extra help.

You will receive resources such as local lactation consultants, pediatric dentists as well as handouts on how much your baby will eat from newborn to 12 months old.

Newborn
Care

With your little one soon on the way and your massive list of "must haves" have been purchased or gifted by loving friends and family it is time to put those tools to use. But where do you begin?

In this class we will go over EVERYTHING baby related from choice of diapers, bottles, bathing, sleeping arrangement and transporting them safely in a car seat or stroller.

I want you to feel confident in how to bath your baby or how to read your baby's body language. What to do when they catch their first cold and soo much more that by the end of it you will be a pro at swaddling your baby like a burrito and introducing them to the furry pets of your homes and family.

You will receive resources and handouts that can answer any questions you may have and if you ever need that extra help I am always available to answer them and provide tools to help along the way.
